Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program at Karwan-e-Hayat
Karwan-e-Hayat’s Psychiatric Rehabilitation program operates as a day treatment program that includes psychotherapy, family psychoeducation, and case management. Our primary goal is to enable patients to return to mainstream life. This evidence-based program was initially introduced, taught, and monitored by faculty members of Rutgers University, USA.
Integration of Treatment and Rehabilitation
At Karwan-e-Hayat, we recognize that not all individuals with mental illness require rehabilitation. For many patients, medication or a combination of treatment and therapy is sufficient to help them return to functional life. However, for others, rehabilitation may be the essential final part of the treatment cycle.
Evidence-Based Practices
Karwan-e-Hayat is the first mental health organization in Pakistan to adopt evidence-based practices from Rutgers University, USA, under the long-term supervision of their faculty members. Our practices include the Illness Management and Recovery (IMR) program, Family Psychoeducation, and Case Management. Additionally, we offer the Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) and sheltered employment to patients. Our multi-disciplinary team of qualified psychologists, occupational therapists, and social workers collaborates with psychiatrists to guide patients toward recovery and healthy lives.
Illness Management and Recovery (IMR)
Research shows that patients who learn more about their illness can take significant steps toward recovery. In IMR sessions, patients are educated about their illnesses and helped to develop strategies to manage their symptoms and achieve personal goals.
Case Management (CM)
Case Management provides the coordination of treatment, rehabilitation, and support services for patients. It plays a crucial role in preventing relapses and hospital stays, thereby improving patients’ quality of life.
Family Psychoeducation
Families and caregivers are provided with accurate information about the illnesses of their patients and are guided to reduce family stress and develop coping skills.
Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP)
Developed in 1997 by individuals with mental illnesses, WRAP is now widely used to address mental health and life issues. It helps practitioners formulate wellness tools, recognize early warning signs, and create crisis plans.
Sheltered Employment
Karwan-e-Hayat offers recovering patients the opportunity to engage in paid work for 3-6 months in the IT or maintenance departments. This work is supervised by the patient’s Case Manager and Clinic Incharge and serves as the first step toward reintegration into society.
Focus on Comprehensive Treatment
At Karwan-e-Hayat, we emphasize both treatment and rehabilitation to help individuals become functional and enjoy life to the fullest.
