Holistic treatment Module

Three months back Mr. Kim aged 29 years came to Karwan-e-Hayat with his father and got admitted with the complaints of excessive anger, hallucination and delusions. After a few days he was referred to step one rehab recovery program which takes place in the ward for initial crisis stage patients. After evaluation he was enrolled twice a week to attend ward rehab day treatment program as his sitting tolerance was poor. He was further assigned for the therapy as the primary need. During his initial psychotherapy sessions, he was very defensive, manipulative and not willing to talk. His father reported that at home, he becomes so aggressive that he fights with his wife. Mostly he stays alone and guarded and doesn’t trust anyone. He has become so paranoid that he thinks that someone is stealing information from his phone.

He was suggested for therapy sessions twice in a week which he reluctantly accepted. After four to five sessions, he started sharing his daily routine.  However; still did not want to talk about his problem. Later he started feeling comfortable and shared his problem.

He reported that he has a disturbed relationship issues with his father and wife because his father had a drinking problem. Further he revealed that he has no understanding and compatibility with his wife because Mr. Kim liked someone else and his parents forced him to get married to his wife. Also, he got married at the age of 18 and due to this he got disturbed and could not complete his education after 8th grade.

Mr. Kim also had a history of self-harm. Mr. Kim also reported having auditory hallucinations for the past 4 to 5 months. Basically the treatment plan designed was based on psychotropic medication, family psych education, psychotherapy and group therapies.

Later, he was kept under close observation and medication compliance/ adherence and anger management was reinforced through behavior therapy techniques. Family was also counseled for psych education purposes. After some time, according to him his problem of auditory hallucination and anger outburst resolved to some extent and he was not feeling as suspicious as he was before he got admitted in Karwan-e-Hayat. Recently he got discharged from the hospital. It is advised for him to come for follow-up therapy so his anger issues and relationship conflicts get resolved and don’t stop taking his medicine to prevent from relapse. His wife and family were also counseled to work on triggers and early warning signs in order to prevent crisis and relapse.
