Board of Directors
Nine members were elected from the general membership of Karwan-e-Hayat to the Board of Directors on October 25th, 2014. The length of tenure is 3 years. Directors serve on 4 committees: the Human Resource, Medical and Ethics, Fundraising and Management committees. It is the duty of the Directors to formulate policy and to see that it is followed through the respective committees. All Directors are volunteers and are unpaid.
Mr Saleemuddin Ahmed is the President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Karwan-e-Hayat. He previously served Shell Pakistan Ltd for 38 years in various capacities and retired as Executive Director in 2004. He joined Karwan-e-Hayat as a member of the Board of Directors in 2003.
Kamran Y Mirza
Mr Kamran Y Mirza is a Chartered Accountant from UK. He retired from Abbot Industries in 2006 where he had been the Managing Director for 29 years. Thereafter he served as Chairman of Pakistan Mercantile Exchange Ltd, Karachi Stock Exchange, OICCI, American Business Council and Pharma Bureau; and on the boards of State Bank of Pakistan, National Bank of Pakistan, Pakistan Textile City Ltd and Competitiveness Support Fund. At present he is on the boards of Abbot Laboratories, International Steel, Karwan-e-Hayat and Safari Club.
Talaat N Tyabji
Ms Talaat Tyabji served as Director Marketing and Public Affairs at The Aga Khan University Hospital for 29 years. She is an active member of Rotary Club of Karachi and was elected its President in 2009-2010 and served as Assistant Governor in 2011-2012.
Mr Saeed Akhtar is a Chartered Accountant from UK. He worked for Pakistan Petroleum Ltd for 34 years and retired as Deputy Executive Director. He also volunteers his time and expertise at the SOS Children’s villages.
Mrs Shameem Zuberi worked as Senior Manager at Liaquat National Hospital for many years. After retirement she joined the Board of Directors of Karwan-e-Hayat. Currently she also teaches as part-time faculty at Greenwich University.
Mrs Qaisra Ahmed is a social worker. She has volunteered at the SOS Children’s Village in Lahore and at The Citizens Foundation in Islamabad. She has been organizing fundraising events for Karwan-e-Hayat for many years.
Mrs Rehana Alam has been volunteering with various charitable not-for-profit organizations in Pakistan and other countries for more than 4 decades. At present she also does volunteer work with Behbud Association, Karachi, Citizens’ Education Development Foundation, Rahnuma Trust and the IRB-IRD at Indus Hospital.
Mohammad Shahid Farooqi
Mr Shahid Farooqi is a Human Resource and training specialist. He worked for Pakistan National Oils and Pakistan Automobile Corporation before joining Pakistan Petroleum Ltd. For the last 17 years of working with PPL, he served in the Human Resource Department. After retirement he joined the Board of Directors at Karwan-e-Hayat where he oversees all areas of HR management.
Mr Imran Zafar has extensive experience in the development sector. He was Chief Executive of Greenstar SMP Company. Presently he works as a free-lance consultant in project development and evaluation, marketing strategies and organizational development. He also works as a psychotherapist for private clients.
